Nikon is known for its high-quality lenses, and the Prostaff 3i is no different. It might be one of the cheap models, but don’t let it fool you: that’s one of the market’s best rangefinder. It’s a precise device, at an affordable price, with top quality.
If it’s your first time using a Rangefinder, the Prostaff 3i is a good item to buy if you want to know how to use a Rangefinder, and you’re probably going to have it for a long time. If you are an experienced user, this is a feature-packed device that will prove its value to you in your daily use.
It delivers a fast and accurate measurement of up to 590 meters (or 650 yards), and yes, you can change it to either imperial or meters measurements. It fits comfortably into your pocket, pack, or belt, making it pretty handy to carry and use it, without any trouble. It’s well-designed for its purpose and I assure you: it delivers what it promises.
The “ID Technology”
What I like most is this fancy technology called “ID Technology,” which means “Incline / Decline Technology,” and if you’re a rifle shooter, it’s a must-have. Explaining it is kind of hard, but don’t worry: it’s all automated and intuitive.
Picture this: you’re on a hill or up on a mountain. Your target is down there. A straight line between you and the target would not measure its distance correctly. You would need some freaky mathematics to measure the distance! Angles, numbers, curves, that kind of thing. This is when the “ID Technology” kicks in and the device starts measuring the distance using the angle between you and your target, showing the correct distance in a process called “angle compensation”.
This is what the so-called ID technology is all about. It is a cutting edge tech and it is a bargain to get it for that price. If you are an experienced hunter, you probably know how important it is to make an accurate long-range shot to compensate for the bullet drop. And if you’re a novice, well, I hope you’ve been taking notes. Knowing your angles is crucial!
I know it sounds complicated, but don’t worry, you just need to press a button and the Prostaff 3i do the rest. There is no need to read complicated charts or even to understand them. The Prostaff 3i will display the results only. God bless technology.
But Wait! There Is More!
The Prostaff 3i offers some other nice features. You can choose from two different modes to suit your needs or circumstances. Press it once and you are going to get the measurement. Give it a long press and you can keep track of the object and measure its distance continuously. It’s amazingly helpful. And after use, if you forgot about it, the device will shut down automatically, so you don’t have to worry about battery draining accidents. It may sound stupid, but it has already saved me a few times.
It also incorporates the Nikon’s spot-on ballistic tech, which means an accurate zoom, and quick and precise readings, especially with its BDC reticles and 18mm eye lens. After all, it’s a Nikon product, and its lens quality is a tradition already.
There Are Some Limitations, Though
Keep in mind: the Nikon Prostaff 3i is made to work in the daylight. It is not made for night-time use. If there is no light, you won’t be able to measure distances. It is also important to know that you will get the most out of this product if you use it in nature, like the woods, mountains or hills. In an urban environment, it does not perform well. This is because highly reflective items such as white walls, glass or metal can cause some interference due to the nature of the technology. You can still use it in urban areas, just make sure you’re not pointing it to a highly reflective material.
So, To Make Things Easier, Let’s Summarize:
- Top quality at affordable price.
- It measures distances with great accuracy.
- 590 meter or 650 yards maximum range.
- Features two modes: Press it once and you are going to get the measurement. Give it a long press and you can keep track of the object and measure its distance continuously.
